Integration and Simplification

04/17/2008

Do you every find yourself doing too much and then feeling spread a little (or a lot) too thin? I can relate. Ever since launching out on our own, we have been defining and refining our style. As such, projects and experiments seemed to grow way beyond proportion and there were just too many sites and too many blogs. So we did what any good gardener would do: began pruning.

I realized that we had three sites and three different blogs. How inefficient can you get! Since I am making the move to Expression Engine, it was the perfect opportunity to combine blogs and do some integrating. I moved all the blog entries from my WordPress blog to EE and then I eliminated the more obscure of the sub-domains, retaining words.rouviere.com. Next I restyled the blog from the default theme that I had selected when installing EE Core and gave it the same look as my web developer site. So while they are actually two separate systems, they appear to be completely integrated. In addition, I built out the content on the site, eliminating the technical section, because who really cares if I used Coda or TextMate as long as the site looks nice and the code validates. I replaced the technical section with a Showcase so viewers can see what we have done and who we have done it for. I believe this gets more to the point of what we are all about anyway.

So now that I am all moved in and feeling a little more comfortable, it is time to move on with the next project. We are in the process of redesigning Ancestor Images. This will be a new Expression Engine site with a lot of features and fun content. Stay tuned as this will be coming out soon.

One last thought, are we ever really done improving how we do things? When we get to the point that we feel that way, then we are in real trouble. Expect more changes to this site.
